108. Clarity of Vision:

In a large city in the (Sangha) province of “Mahakoshala”, the local “Sangha Chalak” (Senior-most Sangha responsibility holder in that city) was also a senior local leader of the Indian National Congress (a political party).  He was a member of the District Committee of this party.

One day, a senior political leader of this city passed away.  The Sangha Chalak asked the local Sangha “Ghosh Pramukh” (leader of Sangha’s marching band) to bring his group at the funeral.  That person disagreed, reminding the Sangha Chalak that Sangha band can only be used at Sangha programs.  In the end, there was no band at the funeral.

A few days after this incident, P.P.Doctorjee happened to visit this city in his routine touring.  In the “Baithak” (a meeting of workers), the Sangha Chalak put forward his question through another worker: “In a given area, who has the last word in giving an order to the Swayamsevak?”  P.P.Doctorjee quickly said, “The local Sangha Chalak”.

The questioner then proceeded to narrate the above incident.  He said in the end: “Does this not mean that the Ghosh Pramukh disobeyed the order of the Sangha Chalak?”

P.P.Doctorjee’s reply was clear as a crystal.  He said: “It is true that Swayamsevaks should obey the command given by a Sangha Chalak.  However, the Sangha Chalak does not have untrammeled freedom to order what he pleases.  [If he transgresses the rules of Sangha work, the Swayamsevaks are right in disobeying his commands.].
